Feeling anxious or stressed? Need to talk?
We know fieldwork can be stressful, and there may be other things going on in your life too. If you are struggling with your mental health, please do talk in confidence to any member of the teaching staff.
There are also these sources of support, which you can access at your own discretion:
If you, or someone you know, are in immediate danger
Call 999 or go to the A&E department at your local hospital
(a member of staff may be able to take you to the hospital, or to call 999 for you)
If you are struggling to cope, feeling anxious or emotional distress
Talking to someone could help you see beyond how you are feeling right now. You can reach out to a member of the teaching team, but there are also these alternative points of contact with people who are trained to help you:
How to find help at times of mental health crisis:
- Help from the NHS; Call NHS 111. If not sure what to do call 111, they are open 24/7 and can provide advice and guidance when you need help urgently but not in an emergency
- Samaritans; open 24/7 to talk you through what you are experiencing 116 123 (Freephone number)
- Connect Helpline; open between 6pm and 2am every night, call on 0808 800 1212
- Deaf Connect; available Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 1pm to 11pm, text or FaceTime using BSL 07984 396 001
- Leeds Nightline; Confidential listening services for students, open 8pm to 8am Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, call on 0113 380 1285 https://leeds.nightline.ac.uk/. While at Dale Fort:
- You may be able to arrange a remote meeting (teaching staff can provide you with a laptop with web-cam, and can allocate you are a private room for your meeting).
- Self-help resources, such as togetherall (see above), meditation and relaxation downloads, and links to a wide range of external services and wellbeing resources, which offer support related to experiences and life events which may impact on your emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing.
When back in Leeds:
- Book an appointment in the next couple of days.
